The recognition of Women's History Month began in 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project; Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March as “Women's History Month.”  This morning, the LWVOC is partnering with the Orange County Regional History Center for its 4th Annual breakfast celebrating the contributions of local women.
Currently, bills are being filed in the FL Legislature that include the the elimination of gender studies as well as nixing diversity efforts at universities.  Perhaps this will come up in today's discussions questioning how these moves will affect public education in the state.  Make time to attend today's Hot Topics or tune in to  Facebook.com/LWVOC LIVE today around 11:30 AM.

Presentation of new program and Board of Directors
The VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America) will hold its bi-annual convention in Orlando in AUG 2023.  For more than thirty years, the League has supported their efforts by administering the election process for their national and regional board positions.  Voter Services is coordinating this effort with Nancy Nix as the point person and Gina Hall and Kathy Sheerin working to facilitate this effort with her.  Look for more details as this will be a large one-day effort, needing 30 volunteers.

Speakers Bureau trainings:
A training for a brand new presentation entitled "Why Public Education" will take place on March 13, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
 
 
LWVFL has endorsed the Right to Clean Water! Calling All Do Bees! Worker Bees! and Activist Wanna Bees!
In support of establishing our basic right to clean and healthy water, our League has committed to helping get this citizen initiative on the 2024 ballot. The goal is to collect 90,000 signed petitions in Orange County. (Why does it have to be such a mountain to climb?) Will you help?
Please visit our Volunteer Page and make a plan to spend some time outside this weekend or later this month collecting signatures. Petitions, clipboards & literature will be provided for this popular cause at event sites.
