This year’s theme, “Daring Women of the Skies,” celebrates the groundbreaking achievements of four pioneering aviators and their connections to Central Florida. They include Bessie Coleman, our nation’s first Black and Native American woman pilot, “Grace the Ace,” who flew reconnaissance out of Orlando Patrol during World War II; Ruth Elder, the first woman to attempt a transatlantic flight; and Betty Skelton, who set so many records she was known as the “First Lady of Firsts.” We’ll also cheer on pathbreaking aviation adventurer Martha Esch and novice pilot Delia Miller, in training today. The event is presented in partnership with LWVOC.
Doors open at 8 a.m. with a breakfast buffet, coffee, and conversation, followed by a program at 9 a.m. Individual tickets are $35. Questions? Contact Joy Dickinson at joywallacedickinson@gmail.com or 407-230-0530.
