The Dedication of the EJI Arthur Henry Marker
Many Leaguers (including those shown above) were in attendance at yesterday's unveiling of an historic marker helping to bring light to the unpunished crime of lynched victim, Arthur Henry. Orlando Sentinel--"The bronze memorial, titled “The Lynching of Arthur Henry,” details the killing of Henry, 35, an Army veteran of World War I who had moved to Orlando with his wife Viola from north Florida to find work and avoid racial violence in Lake City.
Relatives traveled this week to Orlando, some from as far away as Massachusetts and Texas, for the marker dedication at the Wells’ Built Museum of African American History & Culture. None had known of Henry or his lynching until about five years ago when they connected on a genealogy site with Harry Coverston, who was researching the crime."
