POSITION STATEMENTS


  1. We endorse the City of Orlando’s 100% Renewable Energy by 2050 objective. 
  2. We advocate for Florida Forever protection of conservation lands.
  3. We support protective water reuse projects. 
  4. We believe in reusing, recycling, and reducing plastics and waste to produce less trash and protect our environment.

GOALS


  1. Champion electric vehicle use and policy in Orange County.
  2. Expand solar energy adoption in Orange County by focusing on residential co-ops and conversions at Orange County Public Schools.  
  3. Educate and advocate for Split Oak conservation land and smart growth.
  4. Safeguard water quality and quantity in Central Florida.
  5. Impact the public effort to refuse, reduce, and recycle plastics in Central Florida.

Actions to Take NOW to Save Money & Save The Planet


Everyone

  • Make an electric vehicle your next choice and/or take public transit.

Homeowners

  • Get an energy audit from your electric utility or a private vendor.  
  • When your air conditioner needs replacing, install a high efficient heat pump.
  • Use less electricity by turning thermostat to 78 degrees during the summer and 68 during the winter.
  • Turn down the temperature on the water heater tank to 120 degrees.

Renters

  • Use less electricity by turning thermostat to 78 degrees during the summer and 68 during the winter.  
  • Turn down the temperature on the water heater tank to 120 degrees.

Students -

  • Ask to see the Sustainability Plan for your school or district and ask to be involved in its implementation. 
  • Advocate for stronger sustainability goals in your school's Plan. 
  • Join a group focused on Sustainability at your school or join the LWVOC's Natural Resource Committee.


Retirement Home Residents -

  • Organize/Sign a petition urging AARP to highlight how seniors can save money and fight climate change. 
  • Add your name to the thousands urging AARP to take action on climate change. Make a difference!
  • Start a Green Team and advocate for improvements in energy efficiency, recycling and more.
