IMPORTANT letter from Co-Presidents

Published on 3/15/2020

Dear LWVOC Members:

As we face down the coronavirus and work diligently to keep our most vulnerable members of our League and community safe, we have taken swift action to cancel or postpone face-to-face meetings and events. We are in the company of organizations, businesses, government, schools & universities, and state-national-local leagues who have all responded to the direction given by our CDC to limit our communities of contact especially for those age 60+—a major segment of our membership—to avoid as much as possible endangering ourselves or others. The good news is that we can rely on technology to continue to do our important work: campaigning for online voter registration, virtual committee meetings, April Annual Meeting via Zoom webinar, and a free special video virtual Hot Topics next month about election security. We will march on!

As our momma’s would say, “This too shall pass.” While difficult, these interruptions to our usual way of doing our work are temporary. We expect to be able to proceed with our schedule for voter registration and election forums/debates, and get back to business as usual in a couple of months. Thus for now, we are only limiting face-to-face meetings and events through April.

For those who have already registered and paid for events, we suggest three options for you to consider for your fee: LWVOC donation, account credit, or full refund. Just let us know and we will make it happen. More information about this is included in this Special Edition Newsletter.

If you haven’t yet renewed your membership, please do so right now at www.lwvoc.org. We need you! Even if you can’t be active, your membership fee helps us to meet our budget obligations to do our work.

We sincerely hope you and your families stay well and that our community will suffer very little—most from inconvenience than from illness or economic hardship. Now is the time when all of us need to stay calm and focused on our own and each other’s well being. That is the whole purpose of this Special Edition and the actions we have collectively taken to keep us safe and healthy.

Thank you for all that you do as a 100% volunteer organization to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy. You amaze us!

Sincerely,
Your Co-Presidents
Gloria Pickar and Sandi Vidal
