LWVFL Updates & News

BREAKING NEWS!!  Congress approves bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.
The documentary sheds light on the little-known history of plantations and the enslaved in Florida through a visually compelling story that explores the history of a people who contributed so much to what Florida is today. The documentary also puts a spotlight on the methods of systemic voter suppression used during Reconstruction which is a backdrop to the voter suppression tactics we see in our state and nation today.

Congratulations to us for winning GOLD - "Local League Awards" at the LWVFL 2021 Biennial Convention.  Read our winning submission HERE.

MEMBER

HIGHLIGHT

Who will be in this space next?  You?
We want to continue our Member Highlight feature but that means we need members to SUBMIT their information.  Our membership runs the gamut of age, race, and sex and we want to highlight as many of you as possible.  With the last year limiting our social/business gatherings, it's even more important that all of us get to know each other.
Fill out the Member Highlight form and we'll take it from there!

The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council is seeking public input on the implementation of the regional vision (How Shall We Grow? from 2007), the current direction of the region and its future, and values of our residents through a survey entitled How Did We Grow?  The feedback received from the survey will be used to continue conversations and collaborations across the region about community values, priorities for East Central Florida and how, as a region, we are working to create a great place to live, learn, work and play.
The survey is available is both English and Spanish and will take just a few minutes of your time.

Looking forward to registering voters again?
Updates for MEMBERS ONLY

Due to the passage of SB 90 and the mandatory compliance with the law, all League members who wish to register voters under the League's purview must retake an updated version of our voter registration quiz.
For clarity, at this point no matter what you must recertify with the updated version. The prior quiz has been invalidated with the new law.
A 180/180 score is now required. The quiz may be taken multiple times if needed. The quiz's validity has been extended now until May 31, 2023.

As you know, due to COVID-19, it has been over a year since we have had a live Hot Topics, and we’re thinking our members and guests have missed it as much as we have. In the meantime we’ve had a good track record with holding Hot Topics via Zoom and live-streaming it on our Facebook page, but as the world is opening up, we are looking at our options for the rest of 2021 and the future. We need your thoughts and your opinions on our direction.

Please take our Hot Topics SURVEY and help us decide the path forward.

Be sure to subscribe and click the bell on our channel to be notified when we upload a video.

*Reminder, there is NOT a July Hot Topics.  See you again in August but until then, please look for a survey email about the future of Hot Topics luncheons.
