The League of Women Voters of Orange County has a history of more than 80 years in this community as an activist, grassroots organization whose members believe citizens should play a critical role in advocacy.  We do not endorse or oppose political candidates or parties at any level of government.  Our advocacy positions are based on the merits of each issue, after careful study and consensus.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.

You can find more information and additional links at  ttps://hispanicheritagemonth.gov/about/

And in the spirit of the month, we encourage our Spanish speaking friends to check out the LWV's national voting information site!

CALL to ACTION from the League of Women Voters US
On September 17th, we're making our voices heard by hosting a nationwide day of action to call on the Senate to Finish the Job For the People by passing the For the People Act.
The For the People Act (S1) would protect our freedom to vote, get big money out of politics, ensure fair districts, and help create a democracy that works for all of us. Join us on September 17, 4:30pmClick HERE for more information
And see below, the Florida push to register voters on September 28th.

SPEAKING OUT

League speakers are needed to inform local groups seeking more information about the redistricting that our Co-Presidents spoke of above.  Attend our workshop to learn how to be a part of this movement.
A Speaker's Bureau Workshop will feature the LWVFL Redistricting Power Point  to be used for community presentations.  The Zoom workshop is scheduled for Friday, September 24, 12:00 noon.  Any member interested in participating as a speaker or assistant in the League’s important work of educating Orange County residents must attend the LWVOC training. The workshop will be hosted by both the LWVOC Speaker's Bureau and the Government Committee who will be able to answer your questions about the redistricting issue as it affects our local communities.  Assistance in conducting a Zoom presentation can be provided if required.

Join us to celebrate our precious right to vote.  1-4PM, Oct. 24 at The Voter Tree, Cypress Grove Park, 290 Holden Ave, Orlando.  NO Fee--all are welcome--family fun--BYOP (bring your own picnic) REGISTER HERE
