The League of Women Voters of Orange County has a history of more than 80 years in this community as an activist, grassroots organization whose members believe citizens should play a critical role in advocacy.  We do not endorse or oppose political candidates or parties at any level of government.  Our advocacy positions are based on the merits of each issue, after careful study and consensus.

“We want YOU to celebrate voting rights!” say Uncle Sam (James Erwin) and his mother, Joan Erwin (a.k.a. "Super Leaguer”). They’re among stars preparing to shine at LWVOC's fall festival October 24 – a tribute to voting and voters.

There will be a special treat for attendees courtesy of Green’s in Zellwood and Vander Pol’s Nursery in St. Cloud. FREE take-home Voter Trees!  Todd Rowley of Orange County Parks & Recreation is showing off the sign below left. Attendees are invited to wear their family-friendly Halloween costumes. Testing out their costumes – and issuing an invitation to all – are Linh and Tommy Volmer (shown below right) who will lead the Pledge at the event with their mom, Anh Volmer. *Photos courtesy Andreas Volmer.

Attention NEW Members
Orientation next Tues, OCT 19, 6p
Attend our upcoming orientation and learn all about the League, our advocacy opportunities as well as our unique history in Central Florida.  It's virtual, takes place at 6:00pm after the workday and a great way to jumpstart your League experience.

The League of Women Voters of Orange County will be hosting a table at the Backyard Biodiversity Day event this Saturday. We’ll be focusing of voter registration, voter education regarding Florida SB 90 and petitioning our Senators to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act currently working it’s way through the U.S. Senate.
We need you! Please join us between 9:00 and 3:00 and please wear your League name tag. If you’re certified to do voter registration, yay! If you’re not certified to register voters, this is a good time to get that done (log on and visit Voter Services for info). But don’t let that stop you from coming out and representing LWVOC!

Plan to show up at your district's public meetings:  Click here for VERY IMPORTANT DATES of public discourse about redistricting in Florida.  The meeting times/locations vary for districts.

Monday, October 25, 6:30 pm – District 1 – West Orange Recreation Center

Orange County School Board Reapportionment Advisory Committee 2021 Reapportionment Advisory Committee - Orange County Public Schools (ocps.net)

OCT 25: The Speaker's Bureau is hosting a training for League members who wish to volunteer their time to present information about SB90 to the public.

SB90 is a new law that was signed by Gov. DeSantis and is currently being challenged in court.  Some of its provisions include limited vote-by-mail boxes, restrictions on who can deliver the ballots, and passing along the cost of these new changes without allocation of funds to county governments.

MEMBER HIGHLIGHT Our membership runs the gamut of age, race, and sex and we want to highlight as many of you as possible.  With the last year limiting our social/business gatherings, it's even more important that all of us get to know each other.  Click to fill out the Member Highlight form.

This week, there were no new entries in our highlight form (hint: click above)  But if you're looking for inspiration, here's a #throwbackthursday highlight of our Government Committee Co-Chairperson CAROL FOGLESONG.  She and her team keep us informed of the VERY important goings-on in our local and state governments.
