The League of Women Voters of Orange County has a history of more than 80 years in this community as an activist, grassroots organization whose members believe citizens should play a critical role in advocacy.  We do not endorse or oppose political candidates or parties at any level of government.  Our advocacy positions are based on the merits of each issue, after careful study and consensus.

Our Annual Program Planning Meeting will now be FEB 26, 9am-noon
It's our desire to make this an in-person meeting.  Hopefully, FEB will a more favorable time for the community as COVID surges pass.
2022 is a mid-term Election Year which means we will be extra busy, needing your input and volunteerism.

Registration is still open and spots are filling up fast for our annual League Lobby Days! This signature event is one of our most impactful each year. Please consider joining us as we mobilize to Tallahassee and push our state forward.  Registration and Details
 
The LWVOC doesn't want money to stand in your way of attending Lobby Days.  We want as many members as possible representing LWVOC in Tallahassee.

Since it will not be easy for all of us to gather in person for a service project this year in honor of Martin Luther King Day we tried to think of a way our League could celebrate (safely) in the spirit of the day.  What better way than to reach out to our elected officials in support of voting rights, a cause that Dr. King and others fought for so long and with such fierce dedication?  Since the Senate will soon consider voting rights, the time is right for all citizens to make their wishes known!

To make it as easy as possible we have provided you with LWV-approved text and talking points (click above or HERE for complete information) if you wish to create your own message.

The first local election for 2022 is March 5 and the registration deadlines are FEB 4 & FEB 7.
This week's webinar will feature a program touching on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and scenarios and tactics used to stop/fight voter suppression at the local level.
Bay County NAACP President and NAACP Florida State Conference Second Vice President Rev. Dr. Rufus L. Wood, Jr. will join our conversational Lunch & Learn on Friday, January 14th at 1:00 PM
Discussion: Why is continuing to honor Dr. King is still so important today?
Discussion: Explanation of voter suppression tactics used in Bay County, FL.
How were those suppression issues triaged by local groups and activists?
How can others avoid/prepare for issues in their own local jurisdictions?
Q&A Session with The Rev. Dr. Wood and League President Cecile Scoon
LWVOC has hosted the Racial Wealth Gap Simulation a few times.  If you missed it, the LWV of Broward County is opening their event to statewide League members.  "Even though the flyer indicates the focus is on Broward County, the reality is that the 13 discriminatory policies that are discussed in the program apply to all of Florida!"

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Janet F. Daugherty (shown left with her daughter Dana) upon her passing late last year. 
 
Many of you will remember seeing her at our events, always with thoughtful comments and big smiles.  Her input will be greatly missed.
