The League of Women Voters of Orange County has a history of more than 80 years in this community as an activist, grassroots organization whose members believe citizens should play a critical role in advocacy.  We do not endorse or oppose political candidates or parties at any level of government.  Our advocacy positions are based on the merits of each issue, after careful study and consensus.

LWV History to be Spotlighted at Book Festival

The history book of the League Women Voters Orange County and three LWVOC members – Joan Erwin, Barbara Liston, and Ann Patton -- will be spotlighted at a book festival March 12 in Winter Park.  The festival is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at First Congregational Church, 225 S. As we transition from Black History Month to Women's History Month, we highlight a trailblazer for both her race and gender.
The DEIA Committee would like to pay tribute to the first trained Black nurse in America, Mary Eliza Mahoney: The recent NYTimes article below honors the contributions of Ms. Mahoney, a fitting article given the BHM theme of Black Health and Wellness.

As the first trained Black nurse in America, Mahoney devoted her life to creating opportunities in the profession for people of all races. Her guiding motto was, “Work more and better the coming year than the previous year.”

The LWVOC and OCPS are partnering again with Harvard University for a case study. Topic:  "Martin Luther King and the Struggle for Black Voting Rights."  To participate in this endeavor, you will be required to download the provided material upon registration and be ready to discuss the prepared questions/materials.  Click HERE for more details and register HERE for MAR 30 Case Study.
