As a partner organization, Global Peace Film Festival (GPFF) offers LWVOC a donation of $5 for every ticket for ANY film sold online using the discount code LEA24 during the weeklong film festival.  See the list of films shown above and visit  https://peacefilmfest.org/2024-festival-schedule/ to register for MORE compelling films.

Early in 2025, LWVOC plans to continue FILMtalk in cooperation with the GPFF and PBS’ Independent Lens documentary series, which will run through the spring. These films will be screened first in Central Florida and later will appear on PBS.

“One Person, One Vote?” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Bush Auditorium on the Rollins College campus. The documentary, directed by Maximina Juson, takes an in-depth look at the U.S. Electoral College, its slavery origins and impact on American politics today.

The documentary features four 2020 electors representing Republicans, Democrats, Green Party and Kanye West who offer insight into the inner workings of this often-misunderstood institution.

At a time when the Electoral College is making headlines in America’s political discourse, “One Person, One Vote?” is a nonpartisan and timely film that will inform the debate.  A schedule of the film festival is available at https://peacefilmfest.org/2024-festival-schedule/

Early in 2025, LWVOC plans to continue FILMtalk in partnership with the GPFF as part of their Indie Lens Pop-Up series that presents previews of select PBS’ Independent Lens documentaries, which will run from early next year through the spring.
