Action Alert: Stand With Our Immigrant Community on April 21
Following our powerful "Hot Topics" session on April 8, the League of Women Voters of Orange County (LWVOC) is calling on all members to turn advocacy into action.
The Stakes: Governance Under Pressure
In July 2025, our County Board and Mayor faced unprecedented threats—including potential criminal charges, fines, and removal from office—simply for agreeing to review the ICE IGSA contract and the 287(g) agreement. This outside duress undermines the ability of our local officials to represent the interests of Orange County residents without fear of retaliation. Click for more info:

The Meeting: April 21, 2026
The discussion returns to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) agenda. The Board will consider filing a clarification lawsuit to define "best efforts" regarding state law and ICE enforcement. This legal step is vital to protecting local governance and ensuring our leaders can act in the best interest of our community.
Our Advocacy Goals
The Coalition is urging the County to:
-
Terminate the IGSA Agreement: Ending the practice of housing ICE detainees in the Orange County Jail.
-
Dissolve the 287(g) Agreement: Ensuring corrections officers are no longer required to act as an arm of federal immigration transport.
How You Can Help
Your presence is a powerful visual statement. We need a "Sea of Purple" in the chambers to remind the Board that the League stands for due process and the protection of civil rights for all.
