Hot Topics Panel Discusses Artificial Intelligence and Risk to 2024 Elections
Altered Videos, False Information and Cyberattacks Can Confuse Voters and Undermine Democracy
Artificial intelligence has advanced so much that it now can be used to sow voter confusion and disrupt the 2024 elections even more than it has in previous election years. Join us on Nov. 8 as the League of Women Voters of Orange County (LWVOC) hosts the Hot Topics discussion, “Artificial Intelligence & Elections: The Good, the Bad, the Reality.”
Spectrum News 13 Anchor Ybeth Bruzual will moderate the public affairs forum and lunch, held at 11:30 a.m. at the Winter Park Events Center, 1050 W. Morse Blvd.
The panel includes Julie Anderson, Editor-in-Chief of the Orlando Sentinel and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, two of Florida’s largest daily newspapers, Bill Cowles, Supervisor of Orange County Elections for 27 years, and Kevin Aslett, an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida who specializes in online misinformation and its threat to democracy.
The panel will look at previous attempts to use artificial intelligence to confuse voters and undermine democracy with altered photos, videos and false or misleading information, how
artificial intelligence might be used in next year’s elections and what voters can do to protect
themselves better. As we prepare for 2024 elections, this is a “Do Not Miss” Hot Topics. Please
RSVP as seating is limited.
Tickets are $30 for League members, $37 non-members.
Doors open at 11 a.m., and lunch begins. The program starts promptly at 11:45 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. Hot Topics is streamed live on the League’s Facebook page Facebook and is available for viewing live on the League’s YouTube channel. League of Women Voters Orange County - YouTube
