LWVOC Revives Speakeasy Event to Engage Younger Voters
First Happy Hour Partners with Global Peace Film Festival on Sept. 23
Central Florida’s most conscientious happy hour — Speakeasy with the League of Women Voters, Orange County — returns Sept. 23 in partnership with the Global Peace Film Festival. Wine, appetizers and conversation will follow the screening of two short documentaries at the Winter Park Library.
“I am excited about connecting with our Orange County community as we reignite our Speakeasy event series, especially for our young adults. See you there!” said LWVOC President Tiffany Hughes.
Two films will be presented in the library auditorium (1052 W. Morse Blvd., Winter Park, FL 32789) starting at 2:30 p.m.: “Deciding Vote” will be followed by “Halls of Power." Some of the filmmakers will be on hand to discuss the documentaries.
Speakeasy with the League will take place afterward in the library’s bookshop. Wine, water and appetizers will be served.
“Deciding Vote" is a movie about a New York state assemblyman whose vote on abortion changed history and ruined his political career. “Halls of Power” is a film about a young, black, queer activist and his campaign for a Florida legislative seat.
The Global Peace Film Festival celebrates and furthers messages of peace and environmentalism with 40 films screened at venues across Orlando.
Ticket price is $15 per person. Register here: Speakeasy Sept '23
Several more Speakeasy events will take place in other locations in the coming year.
