It was hot yesterday, especially at the League's Hot Topics: Case for the Prosecution-State Attorney Candidate Forum.  If you were there or watched it on our Facebook Live feed, you felt the tension between the candidates.
Various news outlets were in attendance and we've included links to their coverage on our RECAP page as well as a review by Leaguer Judi Hayes:
"Tense exchanges between the two candidates for Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney marked the League of Women Voters of Orange County Sept. 11 Hot Topics forum. The race is one of the most closely watched elections in Central Florida and recently sparked allegations of an elections plot in a lawsuit filed by a former Republican candidate."

LWVOC is partnering with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority on Saturday 9/14/24 for Ballots & Bites, a community voter forum. Speakers Bureau Co-Chair Denise Burton will be presenting and Voter Services volunteers will be tabling.
Register HERE   It's an evening event!!  The League of Women Voters of Orange County announces a new documentary discussion series, the first of which will be held Sept. 18 at Rollins College as part of the 2024 Global Peace Film Festival. FILMtalk will pair the screening of an award-winning documentary with a reception afterward with food, wine and a discussion with the film director. Click HERE for more details.

PRIDE PARADE OCTOBER 19  SAVE THE DATE

LWVOC will march around Lake Eola again in Orlando’s Pride Parade on Saturday, October 19 at 4 pm.  The DEIA committee invites you to “Come Out With Pride” as allies of the LGBTQ community, celebrating our healthy democracy that requires all voices to be included, respected and heard.  Sign-up and details will be in next week’s newsletter. DEIA members will be in attendance at this Black-Asian Book Fair promoting authors, cultural understanding, and providing cultural performances. We invite you to participate! All proceeds go towards purchasing books at Kizzy’s, a Black woman-owned bookstore in Orlando. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with diverse community members and encouraging inclusivity through our League presence.  Click HERE for tickets.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Special Alert!  The Voter Services team is fielding multiple requests for Leaguers to "table" at community events with voting information and they invite all members to join their efforts!
 
To register voters, members must pass the certification test and then they can volunteer at events. Certification training and testing information can be found on the Voter Services Committee page CLICK HERE
 
New Voter Services members will be partnered with experienced members at tabling events and community activities to learn how to engage citizens as well as become familiar with the various policies and procedures we must follow. Click on the committee link above or reach out to our Co-Chairs if you'd like to learn more:  Kathy Sheerin or Gina Hall
