No Kings in Our Democracy
Peaceful protest is a time-honored way for Americans to make their concerns heard. Today, as we face the erosion of voting rights, an increasingly tilted balance of power, and governmental overreach that triggers endless litigation, the call to action has never been clearer.
On Saturday, March 28, local Leagues and members nationwide will join the No Kings rallies. As our national organization (LWVUS) recently stated:” When authoritarian efforts escalate, we must organize to stop them. The No Kings Coalition is acting RIGHT NOW, continuing to mobilize across the country for our next historic day of action.”
Our mission to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy demand more than just quiet observation. While we are best known for registering and educating voters, our defense of the Republic and its Constitution is equally vital. Advocating for due process, demanding accountability, and pushing back against authoritarianism is a deeply patriotic act.
Our Non-Partisan Identity
The League of Women Voters has remained strictly non-partisan throughout our 105-year history. We never support or oppose any political party or candidate. However, non-partisan does not mean neutral on values. We have a long history of fighting for good governance, and we ground ourselves in the principles that have served us since 1920.
Wearing the Right "Hat"
Because we encourage active participation in the democratic process, our membership includes elected officials, candidates, and campaign volunteers. At any rally, these members must decide which "hat" they are wearing:
-
The Campaign Hat: If you are attending to do campaign or party work, we ask that you do not claim League affiliation. Please leave League t-shirts and paraphernalia at home.
-
The League Hat: If you are joining the League contingent, we encourage you to wear your League gear, carry LWV signs, and join us for group photos! In this case, please leave candidate or party-specific attire behind.
There is no "wrong" choice, but we ask that every member represents their chosen role with integrity to protect the League's reputation as a fair, independent voice.
Join Us
Our presence matters—whether at the large rally at Orlando City Hall (Noon–2:00 PM) or at smaller gatherings in our surrounding communities. Our voice is respected, and our thoughtful participation models the precious American right of dissent.
We will be peaceful. We will be respectful. We will be heard. We are called to this moment by our history—and by the future we intend to build.
