Who will control the future of America’s news ecosystem: Wall Street billionaires concerned only with profit, or those who see journalism as an essential public service, the lifeblood of our democracy?  That is the question asked by filmmakers and one that Leaguers explored recently at a screening and discussion of the documentary Stripped for Parts, now available for viewing through DEC 31 on PBS.  Details HERE

"Stripped for Parts” is the story of a secretive hedge fund that is plundering what is left of America’s newspapers, and the journalists who are fighting back. Following the screening at the home of Sue Foreman (shown above right with attendees) -- Judith Smelser, President and General Manager of Central Florida Public Media, and Beth Kassab, Editor of the Winter Park Voice, (shown above left with VP Lee Rambeau Kemp) led a discussion among League attendees.
