Subject: LWVOC Newsletter & Events
From: Lisa K Adkins

Fun was had by all at last night's holiday party. Much appreciation goes out to the Events committee headed up by Susan Sussman and her team including table decor from LWV of UCF. Besides celebrating the season, we also looked back at our 2025 journey of advocacy.  Take time to view our short video filled with a year's worth of memories HERE on YouTube. A full photo album will be coming soon but enjoy these quick snaps from our photographer, Carol Wonsavage: Shown l-r: Leslie Feinberg, Karen Estrin, Maura Smith; Lisa Adkins and Susan Sussman-Events Chair.
JOY to the shoppers!  Last Thursday was another fun afternoon of "Shopping for a Cause" as supporters had a beautiful day to take care of their holiday shopping at our Annual Sip & Shop fundraiser on Park Ave, Winter Park.  Thank you to all the volunteers, merchants, and shoppers for helping to support this festive fundraising event.  A percentage of the shops' proceeds will be donated to LWVOC.  League volunteer/shoppers shown l-r: Wendy Wallenberg, Lee Rambeau Kemp, Joan Erwin; Kitty Woodley

We're already focusing on Election Year 2026!  Leaguer Kam Shenai (Co-founder ACT Florida) has written a focus piece on the next generation of influential voters:

For decades, the story of American politics has been shaped by older generations—by their participation, their priorities, and their sheer consistency at the voting booth. But a historic shift has already taken place, quietly and powerfully: Millennials and Gen Z together have become 48.5% of the nation’s eligible voters, surpassing Baby Boomers and transforming the demographic reality of the United States.

Muzzled: A Siege on Speech
HOT TOPICS, January 14

Free speech doesn’t feel as free anymore. The news media are becoming shackled by a lack of funding, direct attacks from public officials and a loss of support from the business community. How do you battle an aversion or indifference to news, a persistent belief in false narratives and general distrust? Is there anything we can do in Orange County to counteract these threats? The answer is yes, and we’re going to outline what is happening locally with free speech and a free press, and how we can fix some of these problems.

Sponsors are vital to our work to empower voters by providing timely information for the benefit of non-partisan civic engagement in our community and we have a range of sponsorship levels available. To further explore how to become a sponsor, please contact LWVOC Vice President and Fund Development Chair Lee Rambeau Kemp HERE

Also, check out our NEW Fund Development Committee page if you'd like to become more involved in our efforts.
