Approximately 21% of Orange County's eligible voters turned out for the primary election. If you're reading this, you were probably one of them, but it's sobering that 79% of registered voters chose NOT to use their voice. Much discussion will take place before the NOV 3 general election on how to MOTIVATE these voters. General elections typically have a higher turnout than primaries so there's hope that we can get more voters to the polls. We'll need your help!

| | Affordability Isn't One Issue. It's the Whole Issue.
Kam's piece makes three points:
First, affordability isn't one item on the list. It's what the rest of the list adds up to. The other four issues don't compete with it. They produce it.
Second, the household math. Sixty-three cents of every dollar goes to housing, transportation and food. One in four households spends more than 95 percent of income on necessities. In metro Orlando, 60 percent of renters are cost burdened — Florida leads the nation.
Third, the national math. Roughly $40 trillion in debt, with interest now running past a trillion dollars a year — more than defense. Health spending headed toward a fifth of the economy. And a population that stops growing without immigration after 2030. Both parties built this arithmetic. Neither is running on fixing it.

Click above to revisit the panelists' thoughts about the impact on municipalities (a probable 25 percent decrease in revenues) and public schools. Florida sheriffs, police and firefighters have spoken out against the amendment and pointed out that the language of the amendment itself is misleading because it promises not to cut local services when it clearly does.
