Patti Brigham, Leader on the Way Up
| Published on 4/26/2018
This Orlandoan just became the latest statewide president of the League of Women Voters of Florida, succeeding outgoing president Pam Goodman of Palm Beach Gardens. It’s a big job; Florida has the nation’s second-largest state chapter, and has enjoyed an 80 percent growth in membership in the past three years. Brigham has risen quickly up the ranks in the organization, having joined Orange County’s chapter in 2013. A year later, she formed the county chapter’s Gun Safety Action team, which later went statewide. In 2016, after the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, Brigham and Goodman partnered to launch the Florida Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, which now has more than 100 partner organizations. Brigham’s background includes undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Central Florida and award-winning work as a journalist. As the League’s statewide president, she’s following in the footsteps of another Central Floridian, Winter Park’s Deirdre Macnab.
