To the Rescue! How Superhero Buildings Can Save the Planet
League of Women Voters of Orange County ”Hot Topics” Luncheon Series

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 27, 2023) — The League of Women Voters of Orange County, Florida, one of the nation’s largest League chapters, continues its premiere “Hot Topics” series on August 9, 2023, with “Superhero Buildings: Our Secret Weapon to Save the Planet” at 11:30 am at the Winter Park Events Center, 1050 W. Morse Blvd. in Winter Park.
The moderator is George Waldenberger, WFTV meteorologist.  Panelists include:
Ashley Van Stone, Sustainability Manager, City of Orlando,
Philip Fairey, Deputy Director, Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), UCF;
Lisa Pearcy, CEO, 15 Lightyears,
and Philip Donovan, Little Architects, who designed the first Florida zero energy public school in Osceola County.

Buildings use 75 percent of electricity generated and account for 40 percent of emissions. Drastically reducing the energy use of buildings is a vital part of the strategy to achieve a healthy planet. The panel discussion will probe how the energy use of new construction and existing buildings can be reduced significantly and combined with renewable energy to produce zero-energy buildings.

Join us as we discuss:

● How do superhero buildings (zero-energy buildings) differ from conventional buildings in the design and construction phase?
● How do zero-energy buildings benefit their owners, occupants and communities?
● Do zero-energy buildings bring challenges and risks? If so, how are they being addressed?

Tickets are $30 for League members, $37 non-members.
Doors open at 11 a.m.; program at 11:30 a.m. “Hot Topics” is streamed on the League’s Facebook Live and is available on the League’s YouTube channel.

Climate First Bank  is a Platinum sponsor for the 2023 “Hot Topics” luncheons.
